Keyamo is getting the SAN title on his 9th attempt, having previously been overlooked at different stages of the application process.

He had been invited for the final interview four times before he was shortlisted for the exercise for the fifth time this year.

The Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee (LPPC), the body responsible for screening and approving applicants to the SAN rank released the list of successful applicants for this year on Thursday.

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo’s brother, Mr Akinlolu Osinbajo joins Festus Keyamo and 28 others on the list.

Also listed is a former All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Ondo State, Mr Olusola Oke who later defected to the Alliance for Democracy (AD) after the APC picked Mr Rotimi Akeredolu SAN as its candidate for the 2016 Ondo governorship polls.

Professor Adedeji Adekunle, the Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, leads the pack of six academics who were similarly picked by the LPPC for the silk as the SAN title is fondly referred to among lawyers.

Also on the list are Mrs Oluwatoyin Ajoke Bahorun being the only woman on the list and the Attorney-General of Kwara State, Mr Lamaldeen Adeyemi Ajibade, as well as a former DG of the Nigerian Copyright Commission, Professor Adebambo Adewopo.

According to Channels Television, 156 lawyers applied, 72 were shortlisted and only 30 were approved.

Festus Keyamo has taken to social media site, Twitter to celebrate his success, making sure to reference his long journey to the prestigious SAN title.

Some analysts have before now hastily written off Keyamo’s chances of ever becoming a senior advocate, usually premising their argument on the lawyer’s supposed failings as prosecuting counsel for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

With the LPPC’s approval of Keyamo’s application, however, the regulatory body has affirmed the relative quality of the lawyer which arguably imposes a duty on Mr Festus Keyamo to live up to the expectations of those who trust in his abilities.
